What is a self sabotaging behavior? Well it is any behavior that you may engage that ultimately has poor consequences for you. These may include, but are not limited to, any of the following:.1. Tendency to make impulsive decisions.
2. Tendency to over react emotionally to situations.3. Tendency to engage addictive behaviors.
4. Tendency to not set appropriate limits on your time, space, emotional, financial and other resources.5. Tendency to engage negative thoughts, emotions, perceptions, and/or attitudes towards yourself, your life and others.6.
Tendency to not look within for the truth about what is right for you in all circumstances.I could go on, rather I ask you to reflect on this for yourself for a moment. Just that simple exercise of reflection will do you a lot of good because choosing not to be aware of what your own self sabotaging behaviors are is in itself a form of self sabotage. Now I know that being a human being means that you, deep within your heart, want only the best for yourself.
Hence these self sabotaging behaviors that you notice yourself engaging seem a bit of an anomaly don't they? Why do they exist at all? Where did they come from? Why are they so hard to shake off?.Well they are actually not part of you and never originated from you! In fact they are only parasitic to your vital life energy. Now I know that that will sound a bit strange to you because you have probably "thought" of them as part of your personality.
You have also likely thought that you are your personality. Hence you "thought" that they were you and therefore could do little to divorce yourself from them. The self sabotaging behaviors originate in deeply held unconscious negative memories that you have tried to keep out of conscious awareness. You've done this without acknowledging the consequences of have made such a choice. The consequence to you is that by suppressing such "emotional baggage" you have in fact kept it inside your mental/emotional body.
Its presence has left you as a vulnerable victim to it whenever it gets triggered by whatever is happening to you in the present. When it erupts it can take over your mind, emotions, perceptions, behaviors etc and leave you feeling like a helpless passenger without any say. Now because the erupting material reflects some old and painful thoughts, emotions and behaviors these same things will take over your life.In many cases these old thoughts, emotions and behaviors are not appropriate in the present and actually color and distort your true experience of it. This as you can appreciate will only undermine your ability to feel in control of and good about yourself. As long as you continue to make the choice to a) remain unaware of their presence and b) allow them to remain there as "emotional landmines" waiting to go off, you will continue to sabotage yourself.
